When to oil

**********

The hero steam turbine shouldn’t need regular oiling however from time to time it may need occasional oiling. Particularly if it has not been run for a long time or if it has extensive use.

Type of oil

********

Use a light/thin oil. 3in1 oil would be ok or sewing machine oil (sewing machine oil is thinner so will provide faster rpms). Do not use car oil, gun oil, WD40 or cooking oil. It is important not to flood the bearings with oil. A single drop on each ball race bearing will provide plenty of lubrication. Don’t over oil as this will flood the bearing with oil and slow the performance (adds extra friction).

How to oil

********

Hold the sphere in one hand. There is 2 knurled components on the top of the turbine. The top one is the steam valve which is also used for water filling. The one under it is the shaft of the turbine.

Hold the low knurled component and twist the ball clockwise. The ball will unscrew. Put the ball to one side. Lift the shaft of the turbine.

You will now be able to see two bearings.  One at the top and one at the bottom. I suggest putting a drop of oil on a pin. Then lowering the pin onto the centre of the bearing. Repeat for both bearings. The oil will flow into the bearings.

Put the turbine back to together. Run it as per normal. You should find the oil will penetrate/flow around the bearings as the turbine runs.
