The Vulcan stove fan (all models) are robust. They end up in everything from clean modern homes, to dirty workshops or draughty log cabins. Sometimes even in busy hotels.
Generally they will handle quite a bit of dirt but it is naturally best to keep them clean for prolonged use.
Ideally if you have an air compressor you can blow most of the dust and dirt of the fan. However most people don't have an air compressor. In which case a fine brush like a paint brush can be used to brush areas. You can do this generally over the fan and even around the glass cylinder.
Look at the brass part at the back. We call it the bush or gland. There is a stainless steel stem that goes up/down through the brass gland. The stainless steel stem/shaft should be oily. Make sure there is no fluff at the top of the stem/shaft. You can clean with a kitchen paper towel. This is the only part that may need oiling. Read our separate instructions about oiling.
It is important not to oil other parts.
